Goodwill Sip, Style and Shop event
This post is long overdue, but your girl was busy with finals and life. Now that finals are over (YAY!), I can finally share my excitement with you all about this event. April 28th was one hell of a day - from making an appearance on Good Day Sacramento to organizing my rack to getting the chance to style people in the community. Not going to lie, it was a bit nerve-racking, but I had so much fun teaming up with these ladies to share our love for thrifting. Find out what the event was all about here and if you're curious about when I started thrifting and why I love it, check it out here!
I didn't know what to expect, but the event was such a great turnout. I woke up at 5AM to get ready... talk about designer eye bags. Then drove to the CBS Television studios and let me tell you, driving in there was like driving through Jurassic Park. The segment was fairly short, but it was so cool being able to see what was behind the scenes. Plus, I learned a green room is actually green! You're welcome to watch the segment here.
After that, I grabbed some food and went home to change. Then drove over the Alta Arden Goodwill store to get my items ready on my rack. Before the event, I chose my items at the Florin Goodwill location and it was a ton of work going through every aisle choosing items for all sizes with a whole rack and cart, but it was so much fun. With the help of my sister, we've managed to pull 60 items in a span of 3 hours. I wish I could've chosen more, but I didn't have enough time, since I had class. Also, I appreciate how the manager and workers there were so kind and helpful. I got in and out of there with no complaints!
On the day of the event, all of us got together in the back of Goodwill - steaming the items, putting our clothes on hangers and accessories on the rack. It was pretty hectic, but we all made it work. I was so excited at this point because I finally met all the ladies and seeing all the different clothes from their racks was eye opening. It was so cool seeing everyone else's styles. There were so many items I actually wanted for myself, but resisted because I wanted to save it for those who were attending.
When we were ready to go, we all pushed out our racks, set our shoes down, and welcomed everyone in. There so many yummy treats and drinks set out as well. At first, the place was a bit chaotic because there were so many people everywhere looking through all our racks. I loved seeing everyone from families, teenagers, men and women shopping around. It was great saying hi and helping people style certain pieces together. I remember talking with a girl and she complimented me and then I look over and see her again, but in fact, it was her twin sister! They were twins! Both the girls were so sweet and picked out a handful of things from my rack. There were many times where I said hi and had little conversations about fashion, trends, clothes, thrifting, etc. I love talking with people who loves thrifting as much as I do like they say, "Great minds think alike!" I also had the opportunity to style this lady named Kimmy and I already knew how I wanted to style her. The weather is getting warmer and florals and straw bags are trending, so I found this brand new jumpsuit still with tags attached and the cutest wedges both in her size and the bag to accessorize. I'm so glad she loved her look because I did too!

Towards the end, my rack was nearly empty, so I'm glad all those clothes and shoes went to nice homes! It was great being surrounded by other ladies who love sustainable fashion and talking to them about the latest trends and such. It really motivates me to be the best I can be. I loved getting the chance to talk with people in my community. Born and raised in Sacramento, I had my fair share of volunteering and doing charity work, but this event really touched me because not only do I believe that sustainable fashion is the way to go, but also seeing the smiles on people's faces when we all styled them was heartwarming. Basically the takeaway is to be confident in yourself and go for whatever you desire. I had no idea what to expect from this experience, but it was a ton of fun. As cheesy as it sounds, life begins when you step out of your comfort zone. I'm so happy I had the chance to do what I love with likeminded people. Special thanks to Heather who reached out to me to be stylist and to the rest of the ladies - Xochitl, Kari, Hannah, Keia, and Kyra, it was a pleasure meeting all of you!
P.S. I heard there may be another event happening sometime soon...
Until next time!
